The AMGRF has an archive of Southern Ocean sediment smear slides that were made routinely for use in core descriptions. Smear slides are generally taken within each identified lithologic unit during this process and, after examination, stored in labeled slide boxes at the facility. These slides are available for examination at the AMGRF. However, they can be requested for short term usage by researchers at their facilities, with the approval of the Curator or Assistant Curator.
