In addition to the space at the AMGRF that is utilized for routine core processing and curatorial activities, the facility houses a wide variety of equipment to enable visiting scientists to carry out additional analyses on the cores. This equipment includes:

  • GEOTEK multi-sensor core logger with a non-contacting resistivity sensor.
  • Quantachrome Multipychnometer
  • Norelco whole-core X-Ray unit
  • Rigaku Miniflex XRD with Jade 7.5 and search/match software and minerals database
  • Zeiss Axioskop 2 with analog and digital cameras
  • A photographic copy table for core and close-up digital photography
  • Nikon D-70 digital camera with 60 mm and 18 – 125 mm lenses
  • Dark room facilities
  • Adjustable core splitter for cores 2" to 5" in diameter
  • Standard sediment processing facilities
  • A networked system of Macintosh and PC's including a power Mac G5 computer with analytical software
  • Artixscan 2500f Microtek high resolution scanner
  • HP color LaserJet printer 4650dn
  • Upgraded network database server with over a tera-byte of storage capacity
  • New LCD Projector
